17,564 most affected households of local communities (Male, female and children).
Description of Project
In response to address increasing need of safe drinking water supply and fulfill its commitments Government of Pakistan has formulated national drinking water policy after long consultation process with multiple stakeholders across the country. In addition to national drinking water policy Government of Pakistan has made several commitments at regional and international forums to provide this basic right to the citizens of Pakistan. In the light of national drinking water policy guidelines and meeting the drinking water requirement of the citizens of province, Government of Sindh considers developing the strategy document. It explains the structure, processes, and responsibilities of key actors, capacities and regulatory systems required for the successful implementation of the policy.
The assessment done by the organizations observed that the target villages do not have drinking water and villagers do not have their bath rooms. Consequently, the communities of rural areas particularly villages have been suffering from water borne diseases, diarrhea and other stomach diseases.
In this situation, need was assessed in consultation with the communities and they preferred to have:
Drinking water for their families (children, male and female members)
Bath rooms and
Mobilization for hygiene promotion
It is concluded that in fact the poor hygiene, inadequate quantities and quality of drinking water and lack of sanitation facilities cause tens of thousands poorest people of rural area in Pakistan to die from preventable diseases each year. Lack of clean water and sanitation is the important risk factor in terms of global burden of disease, after mal nutrition. Women and children are the main victims.Hence, the proposed project focuses particularly on children and women needs.
